Established in April 1996 by the Environment Act 1995 to combine the functions of the (former) National Rivers Authority (NRA), Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Pollution (HMIP) and Waste Regulation Authorities. They provide advice, issue guidance, Environmental Permits for a range of activities and exemptions from permitting.
