Summary

Clinical Waste Incinerator operated by Tradebe Healthcare National Ltd and located in Wrexham, Clwyd, North Wales. It is a Waste-to-Energy facility with an annual permitted capacity of c. 8,000 tonnes[1].

The facility accepts clinical waste from across the local areas including local hospitals, GPs, dentists, veterinary practices, care homes, pharmacies, tattooists, beauticians etc[1].

Plant[2]

The installation is a single line incinerator designed to have the capacity to burn 0.8 tonnes of waste an hour (approximately 8000 tonnes a year). Clinical Waste, including Hazardous Waste, is brought to a storage area at the incinerator from local hospitals and other sources such as family practitioners and dental surgeries. The clinical waste arrives in wheeled bins, loose loads and palletised loads, which are emptied onto a moving floor system and charged into the incinerator by means of a bin lift and hydraulic ram. The combustions gases are cooled in a waste heat recovery boiler.

The installation covers the whole of the incineration plant and site: this includes waste reception, waste storage, fuel and supply facilities, the boiler, facilities for the treatment of exhaust gases, treatment and storage of residues and waste water, the stack, devices and systems for controlling incineration operations and the recording and monitoring of incineration conditions.

Waste Tonnage, By Origin

The table shows a list of the Waste for the Permit WP3836ZF, that has arrived into sites as reported to the Regulator and then publicised in their reported statistics. The Data was last updated on October 2023. The total reported tonnage arriving at the site was: 2,033.16t. Where this tonnage exceeds that reported in year of the corresponding annual report, this may be due to the following reasons:

  • Tonnage may have been received but not incinerated, i.e. the material is held pending incineration (the operator return to the EA reports as received whereas the annual report focuses on when the waste is incinerated.)
  • Material may have been received into the site but treated in some other way than incineration.
  • Material may have been received on the but transferred out of site for disposal/treatment at another site rather than incineration on the site.
